Tiger

Born: August 1986

Died: 1988

I had never had a cat before because my mom was not fond of them. We always had dogs though when I was growing up. When we moved to Robinson, I was so homesick that I went to the dog pound to get us another dog. We already had Frisky, but I wanted another. So we went to look for a dog and found Punkin but we also found a beautiful tiger cat. Since we lived on the outside of town on a farm there were a lot of mice so we figured that a kitten would be a good thing to have to scare the mice away. So we came home with a tiger cat and a black cocker spaniel.

Tiger had such a loving disposition and was such a good cat. At least I thought so since I had never had one before. When we first got him – remember it was to catch mice, he was laying out in the garage one day on the step and kept playing with something that was underneath him. When we went to check, he was playing with a mouse that was in a hole in the step. We knew right then and there that he would not be a good “mouser”. A few months after we got the pets we had to move into town.

Tiger was a wonderful cat. He loved to be inside the house but also liked to be out in the garage and sometimes went outside to visit our neighbor. When he did all I would have to do was peck on the kitchen window and he would come running back in the house. Because there was a doggy door on the screen door, we tried to keep the inside garage door shut at night so he could not get out. There were some other cats in the neighborhood that loved to come around and play with Tiger and would sometimes get him in trouble running farther than he was supposed to, etc.

One morning we got up and the garage door was open and Tiger was gone. We looked and looked for days for him but he was gone. Then our neighbor told us that he thought that he had seen Tiger lying along the side of the road. Our hearts were broken. We could not believe that such a well behaved cat would run away like that. We had gone down the street several times and never say him so all we could think was that someone had picked him up. Then we kept thinking well maybe it wasn’t him but he never did come home. I told Dennis then that I never wanted another cat again. But then later on along came Liquor along with several other cats.

Even though Tiger was not in our lives long, he was still a big part of our lives and we loved him so much. Now he is just one more of my beautiful babies that are gone from my side but still part of my life and heart.
