Midnight

Midnight
May 1996-January 12, 2006

Midnight came to us as a stray
He had not been cared for well
He had been loose for many a day
Before his plight, to us, a friend would tell

We thought to give him to our son
For we had a dog and two cats at that time
In a few short hours, my heart he had won
When my son called, Midnight was mine

He was an angel from up above
So very eager to please
A beautiful black lab filled with love
He settled to our family with ease.

Frolicking, comical and such a vamp
A character from the start
He ate like a horse, snored like a champ
And totally captured my heart

He loved his rides in the car or truck
He loved snuggling and tickling his ear
He loved his yard and played with stamina and pluck
He grew in my heart year after year.

He protected and gazed with eyes adoring
He licked away my tears
Life with Midnight was NEVER boring
His tail wagging happily year after year.

He rocked the car jumping from front to rear
He galloped along never knowing fear
He lie in the sunlight under a tree
Always together, Midnight and me.

I held him as his life drifted away
January 12th forever a sad day.
I will miss him forever
I will forget him never.

My heart is broken with loss and pain
A friend like him will never again.
But all is not bad
I thank God for the years that we had.
