My stepson, Aaron, in all his wisdom
Replied to the question
“Why is it men love their dogs so
And become so attached to them….
Sometimes even more so than people?”
Without a pause he replied
With dogs you give them your unrestrained love
And with people it is love AFTER you have
Erected your defenses and screwed it all up. (paraphrased)

That is how it was with Rusty and Me.
He taught me that to truly experience unfiltered love
That the barriers I erect to protect myself
From the hurt of loss, only limit my abilities
To Give and Receive Love,
The prerequisites to Life and Living

His always warm and friendly demeanor
Never failed to bring me Joy,
And a Smile to my Face…
I will always be in his debt
For showing me who was the true Master
