Punkin

Born: August 1986

Died: May 13, 1996

We got Punkin at the dog pound when we got Tiger. She was an all black cocker spaniel and just as adorable as could be. She was only a couple of months old when we got her. We got her in October after we moved to Illinois. She was such a good little girl, loved to run and play and was full of energy. As with Tiger, the reason that we got them was because I was so homesick and really wanted to go back to Indiana.

Punkin really missed Frisky when we had her put to sleep. She had always had another dog with her and she had Tiger too, but it was not the same after we lost them. Punkin was getting pretty spoiled and she loved to spend time with us and playing. We got her a dog pen so she could be outside safe while we were out there and she loved it.

Punkin was one that loved attention and loved sharing it with you. She would follow you around and be so sweet and loving. When we would go see family we would take her with us and she always enjoyed that.

I’ll never forget the morning that Josh put Punkin out to go to the bathroom. She ended up running off. She always stayed in the yard before but for some reason that morning she took off. So at 7 in the morning we are out yelling “Punkin, here Punkin”. Well after calling her for about 30 minutes or so, getting some strange looks from people I decided that when you name a pet, you should think about what you would be yelling if they got lost. Josh had to go to school so we continued to look for her. Finally we found her, all dirty and full of burs, etc. but she was fine. I called school and had them leave a message for Josh that Punkin was home and fine.

One day we noticed that she was having seizures. We took her to the vet and he said that since it was the first one we noticed that he didn’t want to start her on meds yet. He said to watch her and see how she did. She didn’t have another one for a long time and then it seemed like she was having them closer and closer together. The seizures were really doing something to her and she could not even stand up anymore for a long time afterwards. We would take her outside to have a change of scenery and that would help in the beginning to get her to come out of one, but towards the end it didn’t work.

So with a heavy heart and much sadness again we had to put to sleep another of our babies. I was beginning to wonder if we were even supposed to have any pets in our lives. Punkin, I hope that you, Frisky, Tiger, Liquor, Pequeno, and Jennie are all having a good time together now. We miss you all and have a place in our hearts and life for you all.
