It is very difficult for me to talk about my dear Fred. You see he was the love of my life and the one person that made me want to get up in the morning; put a smile on my face and can still put one on my face when I think of him. He was my true soul mate. Fred and I had two daughters, Sioux and Jenny. He was suddenly taken away from all of us by an auto accident on his way home from work. I will never forget that day as long as I live.
Fred was a very special person not only to us, to his family but to many other people as well, his funeral was attended by over 300 people, our church had standing room only. He would have been so shocked to see them, but then, I guess he was there as well wondering what on earth he had done to deserve this attention. That was my Fred all over, so gentle, so kind, so giving to all.
Fred and his brother loved to play tricks on people. One thing that Fred and his brother Bob loved to do was to go fishing. I can still remember this one day they wanted to take me. Fred said right, make a list of what we have to take with us, Bob said well for a start we need the pepper and Fred chipped in with “and that brick”. They would not tell me why but I was dutiful, I got the pepper pot, they got the brick and off we went. When we arrived I asked about the two items, Fred said well, when we take the boat out we sprinkle the pepper on the water and when the fish come up to sneeze we hit them on the head with the brick and get them in the boat. I fell for it all the way.
He was 18 ½ years older than me and taught me so much in my life. All the good things anyway. We loved our holidays in Spain, have seen every inch of it traveling each year to different places in the car.
I can also remember the first time we went out together. Fred asked me before we went out if I liked fruit and sweets, of course, I said yes. We went to the cinema and he bought me a toffee apple. Well it was fruit and sweet and so sweet of him.
Fred had a couple of hobbies, reading and photography. We used to love playing Scrabble. He had a dark room and he would take our oldest daughter Sioux in with him. To this day his daughter still loves photography and is working at it now. I know that Fred would be so proud of her.
The times that we spent together are wonderful memories for us. I hold them very dear in my heart and will treasure them always. He was my rock, my support and my best friend.
Thank you Fred for marrying me and giving me two daughters, and now grandchildren to have in my life. I miss you so much, and have every day since you left us. I know that God is taking good care of you and that you are near me everyday. I know that you are VERY close today Sioux’s birthday 7-5-04, I can feel you, I can smell that tobacco and I can even hear your voice saying “didn’t she do well “. She takes after you my darling, perfection in all she does.
I have always loved you and that will never change.
From the first time our eyes met,
I knew you were the one.
The one I searched for,
the one I longed for;
The missing piece to my heart.
Nothing could ever compare
to this love that we share.
I can't imagine my life
without you, and I hope
I never have to.
