Leo Joseph Appelbaum, Jr.
Born: 4 July, 1933
Died: 1 April, 2005
My daddy died in peace in the arms of Jesus. Leo Joseph Appelbaum,Jr. was husband, daddy,
uncle, airplane enthusiast, singer, mentor and friend. He loved deeply but spoke of it
rarely, especially in his final years as he fought a battle with the daily difficulties of
Alzheimer's Disease. He taught me honesty and the importance of relationship. If he were
here to tell you what he wanted you to always remember, he would quote this song from Roger
Whitaker, titled "THE LAST FAREWELL". My daddy said, "For you are beautiful and I have
loved you dearly, more dearly than the spoken word can tell". He begged for that song to
be played at his funeral for 15 years and for 15 years we told him NO, it would make us
cry. It did make us cry, and yet, my daddy's words became fulfilled prophecy to us in a
way as we listened to it played April 5, 2005 as we said OUR "last farewells" at his
funeral mass. He really could not use "the spoken word" any longer when he died. It was
in this time of intimate vulnerability that my daddy did love most deeply and I did feel
beautiful in his arms. I miss him and love him. You would have loved him, too ! See you
when we get "home", daddy. I love you always. Daddy's Little Girl, Josephine Josephine Ludwig
